<환대> Invitation to Korean Craft

이번 전시는 제48차 유네스코 세계유산위원회 기간에 부산을 찾은 국내외 관람객들에게 한국 공예의 아름다움과 따뜻한 정서를 소개하기 위해 마련되었다. 도자, 섬유, 금속, 유리 등 다양한 공예 작품을 통해 오늘날 한국 공예의 새로운 모습을 만나고, 전시와 공예 마켓을 함께 둘러보며 공예를 보다 가깝고 친숙하게 경험할 수 있도록 구성하였다. 전시가 주목하는 주제는 한국 공예에 깃든 '환대'의 마음이다. 환대는 단순히 손님을 맞이하는 일을 넘어, 마음과 시간을 내어 누군가와 관계를 이어가는 태도이다. 손으로 빚고 다듬은 공예품에는 만든 이의 장인정신과 사용하는 이를 향한 존중과 배려가 담겨 있다. 빠르게 소비되는 일상 가운데 잠시 머물며 사유하는 시간을 제안하며, 오늘의 삶 속에서 새롭게 정의되는 한국 공예가 사람과 세계를 잇는 따뜻한 미적 언어가 될 수 있음을 보여준다.

The exhibition has been organized to introduce the beauty and warmth of Korean craft to domestic and international visitors to Busan during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee. Featuring works in ceramics, textiles, metal, and glass, it presents contemporary expressions of Korean craft. The exhibition and craft market offer visitors an opportunity to experience Korean craft in a more accessible and inviting way.

This exhibition focuses on the aesthetics of "invitation" (hwandae) inherent in Korean craft. Moving beyond simply welcoming guests, hwandae is a cultural act of dedicating time and care to sustain relationships, embodying a spirit of respect and consideration within objects. Reflecting Korean aesthetic sensibilities in the process of shaping and refining by hand, such craft offers a deeply resonant space for contemplation in a fast-paced contemporary society. By redefining traditional temporality and craftsmanship in modern life, Korean craft steps forward as an aesthetic language that engages with the world.
